Vertical Door Lamborghini
The only current Lamborghini in production which uses this design is the Murciélago.The Lamborghini Murciélago is a supercar made by Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. and designed by Luc Donckerwolke. It was introduced in 2002 as the successor to the Diablo. The Murciélago is a two door, two seat coupé. To celebrate the Lamborghini company's 40th birthday, 50 special edition Murciélagos were built during the autumn of 2003.An open-top version called the Murciélago roadster was introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year.

The roadster features similar performance to the coupé with a more aggressive rear flank, as well as a considerably higher price tag.The Murciélago sports a 6.2 L version of the legendary Lamborghini V12 engine, a six-speed manual or six-speed sequential automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. It also has a rear spoiler that can be raised to an angle of 70 degrees, side mirrors that fold in to improve aerodynamics, and side scoops that automatically open to the needed size to let in just the right amount of air needed to cool its engine.
The name Murciélago comes from a bull that survived 24 sword strokes in an 1879 fight at the arena of Cordoba, and fought with such passion and spirit that the matador chose to spare its life, a rare honor. In another Lamborghini tie-in, the bull was later presented as a gift to Don Antonio Miura, a noted breeder, and went on to sire a line of famous fighting bulls. Murciélago also means bat in Spanish, and a Murciélago roadster is featured briefly in the movie Batman Begins. The coupé's base price is US$273,000, which is US$90,000 more than its smaller sibling, the Lamborghini Gallardo.Lamborghini have announced two more powerful models, the XTR, a track-only car with a 700 bhp version of the V12, and the LP640 with 640 bhp. When inside you will grab the door handle of the car. Pulling the door toward you the door will open 12 - 18 inches like they do normally. From there the door will stop and not open horizontally any further. Once done you will now grab the bottom of the door and lift vertically. The door will then reach a certain point which it will not lift anymore. At this point you will be able to get in and out of the vehicle. In normal case the bottom back portion of the door will be higher than the roof of the vehicle.

Vertical doors, also called lambo doors or vertical doors, are a type of door often seen on high-performance automobiles. The McLaren F1, Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, Saleen S7, Enzo Ferrari, and the Mercedes-Benz SLR, among others, use vertical doors. The Toyota Sera was a limited-release car designed exclusively for the Japanese market which used this design. Due to its unusual design, some enthusiasts in Australia, New Zealand and Great Britain have privately imported the Toyot Sera.
VERTICAL DOORS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Remove headlight assemblies and side fenders. Secure door by using wood paint sticks or shims into door gaps. Once shims are in place you may now remove the hinges. Unplug the wire loom leading from the door into the cowl. Remove the rubber wire boot. Before installing the hinge you must cut an area on the inner panel to allow the hinge to mount flush. Hold the hinge into place and mark the area that is interfering and cut away.
Install the Vertical hinge using supplied bolts. Install hydraulic ram cylinders. There are two adjustment areas located on each hinge. One for the door height adjustment and one for the opening stop, which will allow the door to only swing open approx. 12” before it rises upward.
Once the vertical hinges are tightened, you may carefully open the door. Check for door height by slowly closing the door. Raise or lower the door by adjusting the Allen screw on the hinge (make sure locking nut is loosened before adjusting and tightened using lock tight when finished). Once this step is complete you can now check for the swing adjustment. When opening the door it should swing approx. 12” before coming to a stop. At this point lift upwards until the door is all the way up. Open and close 5-10 times to insure that the door is operating properly and the adjustments are acceptable. When operating do not apply unnecessary pressure or make harsh movements as the door will move quite freely. This will eliminate premature wear or damage to the hinge assy. Plug the door wires back in and use the supplied black wire conduit to wrap the wires. Use a zip tie to secure the wire loom to the hinge so that it is kept out of the way during operation. Before reinstalling the fender and headlight chasse, you must trim the inside of the fender and door.
Neither of these trim spots will require painting if done correctly. When trimming the door we found that is was best to use 3/8” masking tape to run along the leading edge as shown to get the correct width. This will leave you with a front door thickness of 3/8”. When trimming the inside of the fender we also recommend using tape as a guide. This cut is not critical but we recommend 1” from the fender edge and when approaching the top of the fender, taper it up so that you do not cut through the inner-structure. You will loose one mounting point on the fender when it is cut but it will not affect the strength. On the right side of the fender area you will need to relocate the vacuum canister to allow movement of the hinge.
At this point you are ready re- mount the fenders and headlights. While mounting the fenders make sure to carefully check for door clearance when opening. Some additional slight trimming may be needed to ensure that the door does not hit the fender. Be sure to use plastic conduits to cover electrical wires. Hinges come pre-greased but should be greased every 6 months to a year depending on usage. This installation can be reversed at anytime so be sure to save all removed parts.
